Trista knew what he was thinking. "You thought somebody broke in, huh?" she smiled.

Jed did not feel amused. "You didn't lock the door after you came home."

"I suppose it's partly my fault this time," Trista laid no particular emphasis on the word 'partly' in that sentence. "Aren't you a little overdue with the customary greeting?"

Jed smiled, probably for the first time that day, Trista assumed, and he embraced her. "I'm glad to see you, regardless," he said. "You were gone longer than usual."

"I got caught up in my work, sorry," Trista apologized. "I realized that I seriously needed a vacation. The cool thing about having no future is that you get to take more days off from the timestream. I just take it one day at a time."
